Guidelines
for Community Participation
- Has
a public library or contracts for library services
with another public library.
- Conducts an
annual summer library program.
- Partners with
Christie Vilsack and the State Library
of Iowa on project.
- Has means of
communication with residents (i.e., newspaper, radio,
television, newsletter)
- Public library
and school library/media center staff lead community's
project efforts.
- Establishes
a community advisory panel to identify literacy programs
currently taking place in the community; to identify
underserved segments of the community; to identify
potential community partners and projects to reach
the underserved; to identify overlaps in service or
groups served; and to raise awareness of community
literacy activities. The advisory panel includes representation
from:
- Public
Library
- School
Library/Media Center
- Other types
of Libraries (academic/special)
- Media
- Chamber
of Commerce or other economic development organization
- Civic Organization
(i.e., Rotary, Federated Women's Clubs, Junior
League, etc.)
- City Government
- Other (i.e.,
community businesses, empowerment, human services,
arts, miniority groups, etc.)
- Conducts a
public forum to ascertain related activities currently
being done in community.
- Undertakes
activity(ies) to strengthen literacy efforts to the
underserved.
- Completes reporting
process
An Iowa town or
city committed to the idea that reading and sharing
stories among its citizens is an important way to enrich
lives and to ensure lifelong learning and an educated
workforce.
