Algona's Iowa Stories 2000 literacy project consists
of having a celebration day set aside in the summer
intended to honor the city and county's history. The
celebration is titled Algona Founders' Day and encourages
all community members to participate in the project.
The date for the event is July 13, 2001. Oral histories
of Algona and Kossuth county are shared by longtime
residents and local entertainment takes place for all
ages. In preparation for this celebration, a written
history of Algona is updated and information about historic
buildings in the town is organized.
