Speech Delivered to the National Center for Family Literacy Conference, March 2006

The Verizon Tech Savvy Awards were established by the Verizon Foundation, the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL), and the former First Lady of Iowa Christie Vilsack, a Verizon Literacy Champion.

On March 5, 2007, the inaugural winners were announced. Learn more about these standard-setting programs.

Legendary actor James Earl Jones and 9-year-old literary prodigy Adora Svitak collaborated with 1,600 audience members to create a new twist on the children’s classic Robinson Crusoe. Using technology such as cell phones, digital cameras and an Internet blog, Verizon Chief Information Officer Shaygan Kheradpir led the crowd through the live short story improv. Check out the results of their exciting collaboration.
